Terms

The game

• Every day at midnight UTC a new daily starts: five questions, the same for everyone, 40 seconds each. The rules and scoring are on the How to play page.
• Without an account you can play the daily once a day. A free account adds one bonus game a day, available once the daily is finished. Premium adds Unlimited mode and makes bonus games unlimited.
• Answers are checked by our server, question by question, against the list of valid answers saved for that question. The points given at that moment are final.
• Days follow UTC. Games that are not played do not carry over to the next day.

Fair play

Play by hand, with one account per person. Do not use bots or scripts to play, do not try to get around the daily allowance or the timer, and do not attack, overload or probe the service. We may remove games or limit access for anyone who does.

Accounts

Accounts are free and optional. Use an email address you control and keep your sign-in to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. Signing out ends the session on the browser you sign out from.

Premium

• Premium gives Unlimited mode (endless dives of questions with 3 lives, see How to play) and unlimited bonus games every day, for as long as it is active. The daily itself is the same for everyone.
• When Premium ends, Unlimited mode closes. A dive in progress is closed 24 hours after your last question, like any dive left alone; if Premium is back before then, you pick it up where you left it. Your best dives stay with your account.
• It costs USD 12 per year, taxes included, and renews automatically every year until you cancel. The price is shown again on the payment page before you pay.
• Each account can have one 7-day free trial, on its first subscription. A card is needed to start it. If you do not cancel during the trial, the first year is charged when the trial ends.
• Payments are processed by Stripe, by card. If a renewal payment fails, Premium may stop until a payment goes through.

Cancelling Premium

You can cancel at any time from your account (Cancel Premium) or from the Stripe billing page linked there.

Cancelling ends Premium immediately, including during the free trial. Nothing more is charged after that, and there is no refund, prorated or otherwise, for the time left, except where the law requires one.

Your account, your scores and your history stay after cancelling, and you go back to the free allowance.

Krillion gift

• If you have an active paid KRILLION subscription, you can link it to one RAREFIND account and get Premium at no extra charge. You confirm the KRILLION email address with a code we send to it.
• The gift lasts while KRILLION confirms an eligible subscription. It ends when that subscription stops, or when you unlink it.
• The gift and a paid RAREFIND subscription cannot be combined: cancel the paid subscription before linking a gift, or unlink the gift before subscribing.
• Linking or unlinking never changes your KRILLION subscription.

Questions and answers

We write the questions ourselves from public sources. Facts change (countries join organisations, rename themselves, move their capital), so each question reflects the facts we checked when we wrote it. We may correct or retire questions; a correction applies to future games and never changes points already given.

The map shows borders for the purpose of the game only. It takes no position on any territorial dispute.

• Map: Natural Earth, public domain.
• Facts: Wikidata (CC0), Wikipedia articles (CC BY-SA 4.0; facts only, no text reused), the World Bank World Development Indicators for population and area (CC BY 4.0), the United Nations M49 regions, and the official sites of the organisations concerned.
• Familiarity, used for rarity: Wikimedia pageview statistics (CC0).
• Fonts: VT323 and Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, under the SIL Open Font License.

The game, its text, design and code are our own.

The service, as it is

RAREFIND is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and correct, but it may be interrupted, changed or stopped, and questions may contain mistakes. We may change the game, its questions or the free allowances. If we change the price of Premium, the new price applies from your next renewal, and only after you have been told.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses arising from the use of the game. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the law of the country where you live.

When these terms change, the date at the top changes too.
